Nayantha is a practicing lawyer with over a decade of experience in litigation. He specializes mainly in the areas of Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law and Criminal Law. Having previously been a prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Department, Nayantha has experience in both the official and unofficial Bar and his teaching is complemented by his exposure to practical dimensions of the legal industry. Nayantha is an educationist with teaching experience of almost ten years. He has functioned as a visiting lecturer and resource person at several state universities and private institutions, notably, the Centre for the Study of Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo (between 2016 – 2019), and General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Faculty of Graduate Studies (between 2015- 2016), where he taught at post-graduate level. Additionally, he has a number of publications including several peer reviewed research papers published in international and Sri Lankan law journals dealing with issues pertaining to International Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Human Rights Law. He is also the author of a book encompassing a multi-disciplinary study of the executive presidential system in Sri Lanka entitled “Whither or Whether the Executive Presidency: A Study in the Light of Separatism” (2010).
